Cerebral Farming

Bodybuilding is a very physical activity. But even that requires some study and skill. You don't just start heaving barbells around without preparation. That's a sure recipe for injury.

Farming, despite the manual labor involved, also benefits from brain power. A skilled and knowledgeable farmer will perform better than one who just relies on brute force. If you don't believe me then try planting without doing research on what you're putting in the ground. You might get by if you plant malunggay but the chances of thriving are slim.

For larger farms in developed countries many farmers rely on technology to enhance yields. This goes far beyond fertilizers or tractors. With the advent of cheaper computers came databases and spreadsheets. Now mobile devices provide even more up to date info at the farmer's fingertips.

We don't even need very advanced equipment to provide support.  The DoA has a text hotline which farmers could use to contact government experts. That's a good program. It would be better if they can expand it. Putting relevant information on a government website would also do wonders. A lot of government sites focus on irrelevant data. If I were a farmer I'd rather have data that would impact my yields. A list of available training or information packets will be more helpful than a gallery of DA officials.

                                            sometimes, there's nothing there
